An introduction to OSU's advising system, as well as a list of college advising office phone numbers, is provided here. Encourage your student to stay in contact with their academic advisor. Having a continual relationship with an advisor will help to ensure your student will complete his or her degree in a reasonable amount of time. As part of OSU's First-Year Experience (FYE), all first-year students are required to meet with their academic advisor at least once every term and they receive regular messages with succes tips designed by their acadmeic advisors. The FYE Advising page can be a great resource to you and your new student.
Returning and transfer students often have more freedom in how often they meet with academic advisors, but it is still recommended that they check-in often. If your student does not know who to contact, encourage them to call the main office within their academic college (for example the College of Business or the College of Liberal Arts). For more information on academic advising for undeclared students, visit the University Exploratory Studies Program website.
