Congratulations parents! Your student will be making a transitional change from living on-campus to living off-campus. We hope that Community Responsibility and Belonging aids in providing you and your student the necessary resources to help make this transition smooth. On our site, you will find a variety of resources including the Corvallis Living Guide which is designed to inform students of their tenant rights, responsibilities and resources. By passing the Corvallis Living Guide quiz, students will be eligible to receive $50 off their rental security deposit with participating housing providers. Here are some things you can do to help your student through their rental process:

Communicate with your student to help guide them through the rental process if it is their first time.

Help them identify their housing needs and encourage them to utilize the Corvallis Living Guide for assistance.

Discuss a payment plan.

Are you or your student able to afford the rent and utilities? Who will be responsible for paying for the unit? Is it a month-to-month lease or year-long lease? Will you be co-signing for the student?

Avoid any potential scams.

Make sure your student does not send money to a property manager they have not met in person. Trust your gut. If something seems suspicious then there might be something wrong. Also make sure your student is aware that clear, respectful communication with their landlord is crucial, especially during the application, move-in, repair, and move-out process.
