Memorial Union 109 Ribbon Cutting & Dedication

Corvallis, OR, 1/20/2020 – Oregon State University’s Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life (CFSL) and Memorial Union (MU) is proud to unveil the Memorial Union (MU) 109 on Monday, January 20, 2020. MU 109 will be dedicated to honoring culturally-based fraternities and sororities on campus.

The CFSL and MU have partnered to dedicate MU 109 to honor the “critical role that culturally-based fraternities/sororities play in the development of a rich and dynamic experience for students of color at OSU.” Culturally Based fraternities/sororities are members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and the Unified Greek Council (UGC).

The NPHC serves as the governing body for the nine historically African American fraternal organizations. The UGC is the governing council for culturally and multiculturally based fraternities/sororities that include chapters with Latinx, Native American, Asian, and South Asian interests.

From the establishment of the first NPHC and UGC organizations at OSU, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc., culturally-based fraternal organizations have served the purpose of creating a sense of belonging and empowerment for students of color at OSU.

Shields and crests will be highlighted throughout the space with information about the organizations. All students, alumni, faculty, and staff are invited to celebrate this monumental occasion directly following the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace March in MU 109 with a ribbon-cutting and reception from 2 pm – 3 pm.
