OSU offers a fee waiver to active duty service members, currently serving members of the National Guard and Reserves, and U.S. veteran applicants, at the end of the undergraduate admissions application click on the “Request Fee Waiver” button.
We do not offer fee waivers on our non-degree and post-baccalaureate applications.
Oregon State recognizes the members of the U.S. Armed Forces and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces by exempting them from paying the Advance Tuition Deposit (ATD). In order to be eligible for the ATD exemption, current military members serving on active duty need to submit a copy their most recent military orders, Enlisted Records Brief (ERB), or Officer Records Brief (ORB). Veterans need to submit a copy of their DD-214. Please fax them to 541-737-2482 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Get started using your VA educational Benefits
If are needing to apply for your Department of Veterans Affairs educational benefits and you are a:
you need to go to VA.GOV to complete your application.
You should receive your Certificate of Eligibility by mail within 30 days.
After receiving your Certification of Eligiblity, send a copy to the Veteran Certifying Official, located in the OSU Registrar's Office.
If benefits were received at a different institution prior to admission at Oregon State University:
You may still be eligible for other federal funds while receiving your Veteran educational benefits. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student aid (FAFSA). Oregon State University's school code is 003210.
OSU Institutional Tuition Remission Programs
During the START orientation program, that you are required to attend prior to taking classes on campus, you will meet with your Academic Advisor for the first time. It is during that meeting that you will be given your PIN and be allowed to register for your classes.
To register for START you may go to New Student Programs
As a veteran you are eligible to sign up for the one day Transfer Start even though you may be a First Year student.
If you will be unable to attend a START prior to the start of classes, you may contact the Veteran Certifying Officials to request approval to access a online option.
Are you currently serving in the military on active duty or in a reserve component, a veteran, or a family member using benefits? There are several programs that can provide you In-State Tuition rates or possibly even In-State Residency.
The Veteran Certifying Officials can assist you in reviewing your options and deciding if you qualify for one of the programs.
Degree Partnership Program students
Using benefits to cover courses taken simultaneously at other institutions as a Degree Partner student or other status:
Fill out a Parent School Letter and contact your OSU advisor to get approval for the courses you plan to take in the following term.
Your advisor can e-mail his or her approval to the Veteran Certifying Official.
The other institution will then be able to certify you to the VA for the specified courses.
