Beyond the efforts led by the units within the Office of the Dean of Students, the office advances key partnerships and efforts across the university that support student well-being, safety, and meaningful engagement within the Oregon State University community. Some of these efforts are listed below.
The Community Wellness, Education & Safety Network
The Community Wellness, Education & Safety Network is made up of university programs and response teams that provide support, prevention and intervention for students in crisis. As part of this network, the Dean of Students leads the university's Threat Assessment Team.
First-Year Experience Live-On Residency Requirement
Oregon State University believes in the enriching experience students receive by living on campus in one of the numerous exciting living and learning communities offered by University Housing & Dining Services. Thus, first-year incoming students are required to comply with the First-Year Experience (FYE) Live-on Residency Requirement.
Religious and Spiritual Observance Calendar
Oregon State University has adopted a Religious and Spiritual Observance Calendar illustrating observances shared by members of the OSU community. The calendar and the resources to interpret the calendar were developed by a group of staff, faculty, advisors, volunteers, and students during several interfaith work sessions. The calendar is intended to serve as resource for the campus community when making decisions regarding important dates, deadlines, and timelines.
Spiritual Life @ OSU
Spiritual Life @ OSU is an association of religious, spiritual, and philosophical advisors from various faith traditions and expressions. In cooperation with the Office of the Dean of Students, the advisors seek to encourage and cultivate spiritual exploration, discovery, and development by connecting students with religious, spiritual, and philosophical clubs or organizations on campus and in the community that align with their desired path.
Supporting Activism
Freedom of expression is essential to the university’s commitment to ensure inclusive educational opportunities. The University Procedure and Practice for Supporting and Responding to Protest is led and managed by the Office of the Dean of Students. The Dean of Students is the single designated University Protest Manager, and is empowered to direct university response activity to protest, except in cases of imminent harm to life or property.
